Adult ADHD & ASD Referral Process
(from 1 June 2026)
Derby and Derbyshire Integrated Care Board has launched a new triage pathway for Adult (16+) ASD/ADHD diagnostic assessment referrals.
Why is this changing?
The new process aims to:
- Follow national recommendations for ADHD services
- Reduce delays and duplication in referrals
- Make sure referrals are complete before being sent on
What do I need to do?
1. Complete your self-assessment form: DDICB ASD ADHD patient questionnaire
2. Research and choose your provider under the Right to Choose Legislation
3. Book a routine appointment to discuss your referral request with a Clinician and provide your complete patient questionnaire
What happens now?
- Your Clinician will complete a standard referral form and note your preferred Right to Choose (RTC) provider.
- The referral is sent to a central NHS team for review.
- The team checks the referral to make sure it meets national guidelines for ADHD or ASD assessment.
- If more information is needed, the referral will be returned to your Clinician to update.
- If everything is complete, your referral will be passed on to your chosen provider.
- If the referral does not meet the required criteria, the central NHS team will let you know and provide advice about other support options.
- Once approved, your information will be transferred and sent to your chosen provider to continue your care.
What does this mean for you?
- Your referral may take a little longer while it is reviewed
- This process helps avoid delays later on
